Our
First Gathering
OnBoard
Wednesday, April 28
Update from Joyce, 3/25/04:
Our TA called today and we have the Explorer's Lounge from 5:30 -6:30 pm on sailing day! We have a no-host bar and the food cost will be billed to my cabin. There should be a sign that say's "Welcome Islanders"!!
From Joyce, 2/19/04:
I received a fax from our TA today (from Princess). It would be difficult
to have a party and be near a place to see outside for the sail-a-way.
So,since the life boat drill is at 4:15 pm and we sail at 5 pm, they
suggested we have our Bon Voyage party at 5:30 pm.
This gives ample time to do the drill, take our life vests back to
the cabin, be outside when we sail and then party for an hour until
first seating.
Basically, Princess would have a bar tender for us with a no-host
bar (pay as you go or have a tab). We will order an assortment of
hors d'oeuvers (both hot & cold)
Update from Joyce, 2/22/04:
Michael, John, Tom & I reviewed the food for our Bob Voyage party...here
is what we came up with:
Assorted Canapes (ham, smoked salmon, salami, shrimp, etc); Cheese/Cracker
tray; Vegetable Platter; and Fresh fruit...the cost including
tip comes to $8.00 per couple! We didn't get anything hot
because we tried to keep the food fairly light since it was just an
hour prior to first seating.
I'll let you know where they assign us once we find out. And we certainly
can plan another party later in the trip!

Canopy Tour
Puntarenas, Costa Rica
Wednesday, May 5 |
Details
coordinated by our fearless leader Joyce:
The tour includes
the canopy tour, a hike in Manuel Antonio National Park and a typical
Costa Rican lunch (based on past experience with them in South America,
the lunches were all fantastic!). The cost is $129.00 pp and the
tours lasts approx 8 hrs. They will send us invoices via email.
If we add more people, (even from the ship) the cost will be less.
It is Portcompass Tour # GLA-MACAN. Website: http://www.portcompass.com/regionproducts.cfm?region=Carrib

Info
from Dave at Port Compass as of 2/02/04:
Jungle
Walk instead of ziplining?
I have gotten re-confirmation that there are a sufficient number
of guides on your tour to allow a jungle walk to be performed by
those who do not wish to use the zipline.
Who
is the local tour company for the zipline?
Sue tells me that our local operator is sub-contracting a company
called Waterfall Canopy Tours to deliver that particular portion
of your tour. A detailed review of their services is included in
this "e-pinion" posting that was made by a Costa Rica tourist in
2002: http://www.epinions.com/content_2560598148
Info
from Dave at Port Compass as of 1/30/04:
Is there
a weight limit for the "zip" mechanism?
Sorry: the operator has still not replied to that question, so I
have no answer at this time.
Refund
policy for an absence due to illness?
In the case of an absence of one or two persons, we can offer a
full refund. However, if a more significant number of absences occur,
we may only be able to offer partial refunds depending upon the
base cost of our having booked the guide/operator.
Refund
policy for the group absence due to ship canceling the port or due
to the operator canceling the tour(e.g. for safety reasons during
extreme weather)?
These kinds of failures involving cancellations out of your control
merit full refunds, of course.
Just
wanted also to confirm that anyone who finds they are unable to
do the zip line will have a tour of the area with a guide?
Sue had received preliminary "OK" on the idea of the guide being
able to handle both those who want to zip and those who don't. But
I agree that we must get extra confirmation on that; it would seem
to me that such a group "split-up" would be possible only if *two*
guides are leading the tour. I want written confirmation from the
operator that a 2-guide tour is what they plan.
Please let
me know (by doing a "reply all" to this message) if there are other
questions and I will add them to the above list! As soon as your
questions have all been satisfied, I will do one more "count of
hands" regarding how many persons wish to book this tour, and then
I will send out individual tour plans (invoices) to each couple/family.
Thanks for your patience as we communicate with our tour operator
to get all your questions answered! -- Dave Sklar, Dave@PortCompass.com
